This project is being is being carried out by a team of current & ex-registrars in psychiatry at SWAHS under the supervision of an Associate Professor in Psychiatry at University of Western Sydney.
This project will be considered towards Master's thesis for two of the researchers below.
Principal Researcher & Supervisor : Dr Carlos Zubaran
Dr. Carlos Zubaran is a Consultant Psychiatrist at Blacktown Hospital and a Conjoint Associate Professor in the School of Medicine of the University of Western Sydney, Australia.
Born in Brazil, Dr. Zubaran graduated at Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS in Porto Alegre, the southernmost State capital. After obtaining his specialty in Psychiatry and a PhD in Biological Sciences, Dr. Zubaran developed postdoctoral programs at the Institute of Psychiatry in London (Behavioural Pharmacology), at Columbia University (Substance Use) and Mount Sinai School of Medicine (Cultural Psychiatry) in New York.
Dr. Zubaran was the recipient of the CAPES International Postgraduate Scholarship, the Brazilian National Research Council International Postgraduate Scholarship and the World Psychiatric Association International Fellowship Award. Dr. Zubaran authored more than forty publications including scientific manuscripts and abstracts, chapters of book and articles in the media.
Dr. Zubaran is the 2009 recipient of National Institute of Drug Abuse Distinguished International Scientist Award (DISCA).
Associate Researcher: Dr Ravindra Agrawal
Dr Ravindra Agrawal is a former registrar in psychiatry at SWAHS. He is a member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists and a Fellow of the Indian Psychiatric Society.
Born in India, Dr Agrawal completed his under-graduate training in Medicine at the Goa Medical College which has the distinction of being the first medical school in Asia. Dr Agrawal did his post-graduate training in psychiatry (D.P.M.) at the Institute of Psychiatry & Behaviour, Bambolim-Goa.
He has trained further in the United Kingdom and holds an M.R.C.Psych.
Whilst at SWAHS Dr Agrawal had been actively involved in teaching & research. He was the Registrar representative at the I.M.E.T.
He is currently in private practice.
Dr Agrawal is a student of Master of Psychiatry course at the NSW Institute of Psychiatry. This research project will be considered towards Dr Agrawal's thesis for his Masters ( referred above).

Associate Researcher : Dr Kanwarjot Channi
Dr. Kanwarjot channi
is Psychiatry Registrar at Westmead Hospital (NSW), Australia.
Born in India, Dr. Channi got her MBBS degree from Baba Farid University of Health Sciences. Dr Channi started her training in Psychiatry in the UK before moving to sunny Australia due to its excellent training program.
She has done her FRANZCP 1 and and is currently working in Child and adolescent psychiatry at Westmead Hospital. She plans to work in the areas of Eating disorder and stigma attached to mental illness.

Dr. Foresti is Psychiatry Registrar at Nepean Hospital in Penrith (NSW), Australia.
Born in Brazil, Dr. Foresti graduated in Medicine at University of Caxias do Sul (UCS). Dr. Foresti participated in numerous research projects while based at the Southern Brazilian Drug Use Monitoring Center (SULNARC) at UCS. She was awarded with FAPERGS Research Fellowship from 2003 to 2005. Dr. Foresti has published scientific articles particularly in the areas of substance abuse, cultural psychiatry and maternal mental health. Dr. Foresti has also obtained the Australian Medical Council certification.

Associate Researcher: Dr Sukhwinder Randhwa
Dr Randhwa is a registrar and a FRANZCP trainee in Psychiatry at SWAHS.
